PFUR Sport and Recreation center “DRUJBA”

The PFUR Sport and Recreation center “DRUJBA” (SRC) is a division aimed at organization and implementation of educational, research, sport and recreative programmes for all undergraduate and postgraduate students, for faculties and staff. The Head of the SRC is Vitaliy Stepanovich Pobyvanec, professor. SRC consists of the following units: the department of physical education, the research laboratory “Adaptation and functional health reserves”, the sports centre.

Department of physical education headed by Vladimir Mikhailovich Shuliatiev (professor) is a general University department. The department provides physical education programs for students of the Institute of Foreign languages, and for 1 and 2 year students of all PFUR faculties and Institutes according to the University curriculum. The department has 31 employees, including 2 Doctors of Science and 6 Candidates of Science. There were 8035 students studying at this department during the academic year 2008-2009.

Research laboratory “Adaptation and functional health reserves” studies the functional reserves of the human body and reviews the level of the physical development of students. The results of its research activity are represented in a scientific report and are applied in textbooks, issued by the University. The laboratory chief is Gennadiy Alexandrovich Panov, M.D..

The Sports Centre is a complex of 2 stadiums (one – with a natural grass lawn, with seating capacity of 3000), 2 gymnasiums, 4 gyms (2 for ladies and 2 for gents), 3 indoor and 6 outdoor courts, a ootball pitch with mini-football fields, a volleyball field, a basketball court and gymnastics facilities. In the academic year 2008-2009 students of our University attended more than 52 groups of 34 sports: arm-wrestling, aerobics, badminton, basketball, box, volleyball, body-building (5 units), karate, kickboxing, track and field athletics, skiing, swimming (2 units), rugby, softball, caving, rock-climbing, tennis (2 units), table tennis, football, mini-football, women’s football, shan gyi, yoga, chess, darts etc. In 2008-2009 the PFUR sport teams represented our University in 33 events in the XXI Moscow student games and in 9 events on the V Moscow Universiade.
